Billionaires Trust

Project goals

Billionaires Trust is a platform for users to be part of something big, while investing very little. This idea is that users could sign up for free to pitch their business, and investors can sign up for a small fee. They can then buy shares in small companies with the hopes of boosting and furthering their business.

The onboarding process of an app is so important as it’s the users first experience of your product. When designing Eight App I was very aware of the sensitivity and care that needed to be taken. Instead of launching the user straight into a feed of photos, they see cards asking them questions relating to the eighth amendment. Users must swipe through all three cards before a button asking them to “Have your say” appears. This design decision was to prompt the user to think, and to inform them about the purpose of the app. Each card was accompanied with a subtle animation created using AirBnb’s Lottie plugin.

After the short onboarding process, users are brought to the photo feed. The UI is minimal, allowing the content to speak for itself. Users can scroll through the feed of selfies and tap on them to reveal a message written by the person. The number at the top of the screen relates to the amount of selfies added to the feed. Tapping on it reveals information about the Eighth Amendment.

The decision to only allow selfies or groups of faces to be added to the app was one the team as a whole came to after alot of thought. Our reasoning was that we wanted to encourage users to add their face to their story, and to protect against offensive imagery as much as possible. We used facial detection and only allowed the front facing camera in order to do this. The first time a user goes to add a story they see a pop up explaining why the photo has to be a selfie. People don’t like to be forced to do things, so an explanation was necessary.

The custom camera UI lets  a user take a selfie, and add a graphic if they choose to. The graphics were very kindly provided by various Irish illustrators and designers. As the app is to primarily provide support for the Repeal movement, there are set headings that a user can choose from when adding their story. A progress bar indicates how much text they can provide.
